Bajaj Auto Limited has entered into a partnership with Triumph Motorcycles. Thanks to this, it is expected that new range of Triumph branded motorcycles, in the mid capacity range, will be produced in India at the Bajaj Auto plant in Chakan for global as well as domestic market.
As per a new report by Car And Bike, the product development has commenced for the first product. Timeframe when these bikes will be introduced in the market will be only after 3 years.
The new range of Triumph bike to be produced at Bajaj Auto Chakan plant will be in the sub 800cc capacity targeting sales in ASEAN and African markets for a start. This new partnership will enhance Bajaj Auto brand image and low cost manufacturing expertise to add more emphasis on the 400cc to 800cc segment.
Triumph bikes globally start from 675cc and this tie-up will allow Triumph Motorcycles to scale down the capacity curve. Though Triumph Motorcycles will be designing and engineering the bikes, Bajaj Auto will be involved in sourcing and manufacturing process. The first of these mid segment bikes in the 250cc to 500cc range will be developed over the next two to three years after which sales in local and global markets will commence.

Triumph had showcased a motorcycle in the 250cc at the 2013 EICMA Show in Milan. It is belived that this is the bike which will be a focus of the new partnership with Bajaj Auto. The partnership will allow Triumph to offer motorcycles in a segment in which they do not operate and that too at a lower cost. Bajaj Auto will be able to compete against the likes of Eicher Motors' Royal Enfield which has been growing in popularity both in Indian and global markets.
