CEBU CITY, Oct. 7 (PIA) -- The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) forged an agreement with Cebu City Government on Oct. 3 to implement an anti-poverty project for the development of an agricultural trading post and enterprise.
Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) will fund the P3-million worth of anti-poverty projects.
It was on July 22 of this year when NAPC and PAGCOR signed a memorandum of agreement lifting the disbursement ban on the P49-M assistance fund to allocate for poverty reduction prototype projects in seven priority areas in the country.
Cebu City is one of the identified priority areas along with Majayjay in Laguna, Calbayog City in Samar, Talipao in Sulu, Valladolid in Negros Occidental, Kayapa in Nueva Vizaya and Kauswagan in Lanao Del Norte.
NAPC Secretary Noel Felongco said that the MOA with Cebu City will strengthen the partnership and ensure that the support of the LGU in the implementation of the projects in the city.
Felongco added that thru the MOA the LGU is expected to provide necessary administrative and logistical assistance.
Moreover, a minimum lot area of 150 square meters for the construction of the agricultural center and trading post under a usufruct agreement will also be provided by the city government.
Each million pesos of the 3 million is respectively allotted for the construction of the physical infrastructures as well as procurement for equipment; hauling support and provision for vehicle; and, capital infusion relative to the conduct of livelihood in the area.
The NAPC will issue a policy guidelines and direction to ensure the proper implementation of the NAPC-LGU Project through its accredited volunteers and civil society organizations. (fan/pia7)
