NEW YORK, New York - U.S. stocks marched higher on Tuesday matching gains made on stock markets around the world.
Technology stocks led the way with the Nasdaq Composite adding 156.37 points or 1.28 percent to 12,355.11.
The Standard and Poor's 500 advanced 40.82 points or 1.13 percent to 3,662.45.
The Dow Jones index rose 185.28 points or 0.63 percent to 29,823.92.
On overseas markets, the FTSE 100 in London gained 1.89 percent. The German Dax rose 0.69 per cent. The Paris-based CAC 40 climbed 1.14 percent.
On Asian, markets, the Nikkei 225 in Tokyo jumped 353.92 points or 1.34 percent to 26,787.54.
The Australian All Ordinaries advanced 70.10 points or 1.04 percent to 6,812.20.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng firmed 226.19 points or 0.86 percent to 26,787.54.
China's Shanghai Composite rose 60.18 points or 1.77 percent to 3,451.94.
