NEW YORK CITY, New York: The Wall Street Journal reported this week that the US Federal Trade Commission is preparing a possible antitrust lawsuit against Amazon.com.
However, the report did not confirm the timing of the case and which aspects of the e-commerce giant's businesses would targeted by the Trade Commission.
After Amazon was criticized for allegedly favoring its own products and placing obstacles before outside sellers on its platform, the Trade Commission began investigating the company during the Trump administration, especially for the bundling practices of its Prime subscription service.
After it addressed concerns over use of sellers' data, in December, Amazon reached a settlement with the European Union in three antitrust probes, preventing a fine of up to 10 percent of its international turnover.
In August last year, the Trade Commission rejected Amazon's efforts to reverse demands for both Chief Executive Andy Jassy and Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos to testify at hearings.
Amazon called the agency's requests in its investigation of the sign-up and cancellation processes for its Prime program to be "burdensome."
