BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- At Qingdao Port in east China's Shandong Province, three sunflower-shaped solar power systems automatically track the sun, boosting power generation efficiency by about 40 percent compared with standard solar products.
Solar installations like these form a broader energy mix that also includes wind, hydrogen, shore power, energy storage and alternative fuels, supporting a diversified and sustainable green energy system. Ships docking at the port can plug into shore power, achieving energy conservation and emission reduction.
"Green and low-carbon transition is a revolution in production, lifestyles and values," said Xiu Fangqiang, general manager of the port's automated terminal. "It also opens a win-win path for economic growth and ecological conservation."
China has made green development a prominent feature of Chinese modernization, seeking to inject fresh momentum into sustainable, high-quality growth. In its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), the government pledged to accelerate the green transition across the board and strengthen green development drivers.
According to experts, the green shift is already reshaping the industrial system in the "world's factory."
Green transformation and green technological innovation are driving industrial upgrading of Chinese manufacturing, said Wang Hao, a researcher at the Guangdong Institute for International Strategies.
Technologies from Moon Environment Technology Co., Ltd., based in Yantai, also in Shandong Province, help capture and liquefy industrial carbon dioxide emissions.
The company's technologies have been applied in food processing, chemical parks and offshore engineering projects across Belt and Road partner countries, with annual carbon capture exceeding 12 million tonnes.
The resulting liquid carbon dioxide is reused in sectors ranging from beverages to welding and dry ice production.
"Waste from upstream production processes can become valuable resources for downstream industries," said Wang Liqun, marketing director of Moon Environment.
The green transition is also extending into agriculture. In Zhoukou, central China's Henan Province, Henan Jindan Lactic Acid Technology Co., Ltd. processes corn into polylactic acid, a material used to produce biodegradable packaging bottles, garbage bags and mulch films.
The company is developing a circular, low-carbon industry chain that offers a potential solution to plastic pollution, said Shi Congliang, Jindan's general manager.
Government policy support is reinforcing these trends. In the 2026 government work report, China pledged to implement a system controlling both the total amount and intensity of carbon emissions, targeting a reduction of around 3.8 percent in carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP. Authorities also plan to set up a national fund for low-carbon transition and foster new growth drivers such as hydrogen power and green fuels.
China has already built the world's most comprehensive policy framework for carbon reduction as well as the largest renewable energy system, and has been actively sharing its green technologies around the world. Between 2021 and 2025, exports of Chinese wind and solar products helped other countries reduce carbon emissions by around 4.1 billion tonnes.
Chinese companies are also offering the world greener vehicles to speed up the green shift in the transport sector.
Yutong Bus Co., Ltd., a leading electric bus manufacturer based in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province, has sold its buses in over 60 countries and regions, with cumulative sales exceeding 210,000 units and associated carbon emission reductions of 28.7 million tonnes.
"From product exports to local partnerships, Chinese companies' green solutions are further integrating into the global market," said Wang Kun, deputy general manager of a subsidiary of Yutong Group, parent company of Yutong Bus.
Experts have noted that the economic logic of green development is also evolving.
"Green and low-carbon development has shifted from a cost burden to an efficiency driver, and from an external regulatory requirement into an internal growth advantage," said Qian Lihua, executive vice president of CIB Institute for Carbon Neutrality and Finance.
